Introduction
The home is often reported as the most common location for out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests (SCA), and survival outcomes are very low. There has been limited recent research into modern public access defibrillator (PAD) use in the home. The purpose of this analysis was to gain deeper understanding of survival outcomes in the home compared to public locations.  

Methods:
Worldwide data collection began in October 2012. End-users of HeartSine PADs downloaded ECG data and provided patient demographics. Details on SCA location, rescuer response times, and survival outcomes were also provided.

Results:
A total of 2860 events were analysed, 1015 (35.5%) occurring in the home, and 682 (23.9%) occurring in public locations such as parks, streets and restaurants.
In the home, the mean(SD) age of patients was 64(18) years, with 64.6% male. The median(IQR) response time was 00:07:00 (00:04:04, 00:14:00).
In public locations, the mean(SD) age of patients was 57(18) years, with 79.3% male. The median(IQR) response time was lower than in the home at 00:05:00 (00:02:00, 00:10:00). The difference between age, gender and response times were statistically significant between the groups (p<0.001)
Patients suffering SCA in public were more likely to present shockable rhythms (43.1% versus 17.8%, p<0.001) and survive to hospital admission (35.1% versus 12.8%, p<0.001) than those in the home.

Conclusion:
The results of this study demonstrate that more SCAs occur at home, and these patients are less likely to survive than those in public locations. Faster response times to SCA patients in the home may increase proportion of shockable rhythms, which in turn may improve survival outcomes. The results of this analysis highlight the opportunity to save more lives by placing of simple-to-use PADs in the home.
