The  purpose  of  the  study  is  to  evaluate  the  retention  of  Cardiopulmonary  Resuscitation  Quality  (CPRQ)  and  compliance  of  International  Guidelines  in  Resuscitation  in  Spanish  nursing  students.

Descriptive,  observational,  longitudinal  and  prospective  study.  Students  were  trained  during  8  hours  following  the  European  Resuscitation  Council  (ERC)  recommendations.  The  CPRQ  skills  and  the  compliance  of  International  Guides  were  evaluated  in  two  phases  through  individual  practice  exams  of  10  minutes  duration.  Between  the  first  phase  (after  training)  and  the  second  phase  (nine  months  later),  students  did  not  receive  any  other  training  in  CPR.  120  students  of  the  "Emergency  management"  course  of  the  University  of  Girona  (UdG)  composed  the  sample.  The  data  collection  instruments  were  a  questionnaire  and  a  high-fidelity  manikin  simulator.  For  statistical  analysis  it  was  used  chi-square  test,  the  Anova,  Student's  t  test  and  Pearson  correlation.

During  the  first  phase  90.8%  of  students  performed  correctly  full  sequence  of  international  guidelines.  However,  after  nine  months,  in  the  second  phase,  it  only  made  it  69.7%.  The  steps  that  achieved  better  results  in  the  second  phase  were  the  assessment  of  consciousness  (93.1%)  and  the  assessment  of  breath  (89.1%).  The  CPRQ  was  worse  in  the  second  phase  going  from  76.19%  to  59.67%  of  the  total  score.  Sex  was  related  with  depth  of  compression,  compression  rate  and  release  right  after  chest  compression.  High  compression  rates  were  negatively  associated  with  the  level  of  depth  compression  achieved.  As  well  as  a  greater  depth  was  negatively  associated  with  the  release  of  chest  after  each  compression.

In  conclusion,  a  decrease  in  CPRQ  and  compliance  in  International  Guidelines  are  shown  after  nine  months  of  initial  training.  For  this  reason  it  is  recommended  to  increase  the  frequency  to  reduce  the  time  interval  between  courses.
