Background:
Provincial stroke quality indicators in Ontario, Canada have set an example for how stroke data can be utilized for quality improvement. Many organizations proxy results in-house resulting in a significant resource burden, non-standard methodologies, and the inability to compare to peers. The Central South and Southwestern Regional Stroke Networks saw an opportunity to collaborate on a report that would closely mirror the provincial methodology in a more timely fashion through the Integrated Decision Support (IDS) Business Intelligence System hosted by Hamilton Health Sciences.

Objective:
To develop a tool with current, standard quality indicator results throughout the patient journey to facilitate actionable data-driven quality improvements in stroke care.

Methods:
A new dashboard was developed by IDS, building and expanding upon the Ontario Stroke Report Card and existing dashboards utilized by the two regions. Using open source software, this dashboard includes aggregate results and re-identifiable patient level details, with automatic weekly hospital data updates.


Results: 
A regional stroke dashboard presenting timely quality indicator results for 82 institutions was developed within existing infrastructure, data sharing agreements, and resources of IDS.
