Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6 months of life, constitutes one of the main goals of the healthcare programs all over the world 
Aim of the study: To assess duration of exclusive breastfeeding and to identify the factors that influence duration of exclusive breastfeeding.
Specific objectives: 
•	To determine methods of infant nutrition during first six months of life
•	To determine the use of exclusive breastfeeding.
•	To determine the factors that influence positively or negatively and duration of exclusive breastfeeding.
Material and methods: This is a descriptive study realized at Vlora city, during the period November 2014 – January 2015. In this study are included 68 mothers. We used self-administered questionnaire, that were prepared after a careful study of the literature. 
Results: Only 25.9% of mothers have realized exclusive breastfeeding for 5-6 months. Mothers aged 26-35 years are more prone to exclusive breastfeeding. The main factor of the two groups of mothers who have made the cessation of breastfeeding exclusive was “Thinking that does not saturate their child” and the second factor in both groups of mothers is: impact of family to start extra child nutrition”. Mothers who have realized exclusive breastfeeding for a period of 5-6 months in 45% of them have support from health personnel.
Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding for a long time is seen to: Mothers aged over 26 years, those with higher education, householders  and their with low social status Mothers who had fed their baby within 2 hours prior to delivery, mothers that have the second child, mothers who had been informed by health personnel during  prenatal and postnatal period about the importance of breastfeeding.
