The Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists (IONiC) was formed to share content and best practices for teaching and learning in inorganic chemistry. Over the past twelve years, we have built a website and social networking hub, VIPEr (the Virtual Inorganic Pedagogical Electronic Resource www.ionicviper.org), a home to more than 1250 registered faculty users who share teaching resources, advice, and evidence of student learning. Over 1000 learning objects have been uploaded to the site, with approximately 30,000 downloads in the last 2 years. We have hosted numerous content creation workshops that have brought together faculty from a wide variety of institutional types with researchers at the frontiers of Inorganic Chemistry to collaboratively develop teaching content. More recently, we have begun a VIPEr Fellows program where faculty work with each other to revise the inorganic curriculum at their institution and incorporate advances in pedagogical practice. Both materials and syllabi are shared with the larger VIPEr community.
