Sepsis causes a pro- and anti-inflammatory response. Sometimes a dysregulation provokes a sustained immunosuppression. New promising therapies are emerging to counteract this. To treat only the most immunosuppressed patients, we need a marker that reflects their immunity like the monocyte human leukocyte antigen-DR (mHLA-DR). Low mHLA-DR expression is linked to monocyte anergy and increased risk of secondary infections and death.
The aim of this study is to check the feasability of the mHLA-DR monitoring in septic patients in the ICU and to correlate our results with those in the literature.
