The Moor Laser Doppler Imager (LDI) is the NICE supported standard for measuring burn wound blood flow and burn depth. However, it is costly. The FLIR ONE is a £220 smartphone attached, thermal imaging camera that can be used for assessing burn wound temperature to aid the estimation of burn depth. The aim of our study is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the FLIR ONE in assessing burn temperature and depth and to compare it to the Moor LDI in its ability to predict healing times. The FLIR ONE offers a superior user experience compared with the Moor LDI, it is portable, takes instant images and has no maintenance costs. However, our experience with the FLIR ONE shows poor correlation between temperature changes and healing potential in assessing burn depth and predicting wound healing within 3 weeks compared to the current gold standard.
