Integration of undergraduate research into curricula is a transformative, high impact practice in higher education. At the University of New England, a yearlong University Organic Chemistry sequence has been developed using best practices of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). Now three years into implementation, data from past course research projects are being infused into both the University and the traditional organic chemistry sequence to create a learning ecosystem. The CURE students, including course alumni who are now serving as teaching assistants and faculty-mentored undergraduate researchers, are front and center in this process. All students learn the value of sustainability principles, experience innovation as a direct result of applying and analyzing knowledge that was generated in the CURE, and are inspired to learn by discovering new knowledge. The development, optimization, and outcomes of a new experiment - the optimized green isomerization of carvone to carvacrol catalyzed by Amberlyst 15 - is herein reported.
