Oxygen mass transport in cathode catalyst layer (CCL) of high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs) plays an important role in promoting fuel cell performance. The composition of binder in CCL has a crucial effect on O2 mass transport. However, there are no quantitative evidences to illustrate the effect of binder's composition on O2 mass transport. And the effect of PA leaching on O2 mass transport is also rarely investigated. The purpose of this study is to provide quantitative O2 mass transport coefficients in binder as a function of composition and PA doping level. In this work, we design and manufacture an electrochemical system equipped with a Pt disk microelectrode with diameter of 5um. And we apply it to elucidate oxygen mass transport coefficients in poly (ethersulphone)-poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PES-PVP) blend membrane at 25°C, RH = 90% and 180°C, RH = 0% in pure O2, with different PVP content and different PA doping level. We found diffusion coefficients (DO2) decrease as PVP content increase at the two conditions mentioned above. And there is a peak value of DO2 as the PA doping level increases. The results are attributed to the composition of binder and the mass transport mechanism of O2 in binder, which is illustrated by Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics and LAMMPS simultaneously.
