Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has gained popularity as a non-invasive treatment for certain types of cancers. PDT consists of the administration of a photosensitizing agent, followed by laser-light activation to produce reactive oxygen species in the local vicinity of the tumor. Limitations for this form of treatment include selectivity and solubility. In this poster, we focus on our recent synthetic efforts towards the synthesis of several novel hyaluronic acid-based photosensitizers for targeting tumors overexpressing CD44 with the potential for overcoming the major limitations associated with PDT.
