Visible/solar light induced photo-catalysts are of great interest for environmental remediation. Thus Ag NPs were grown on the top of TiO2 surface and characterized completely by various analytical methods (XRD, DLS, TEM, HRTEM, and XPS) and analyzed the synergic catalytic nature of TiO2-Ag NPs through employing in the oxidation of ciprofloxacin (Cipro) under solar light as its absorption band was around 550 nm, corresponding to the band gap energy of 2.92 eV. In the study, the adhesion of AgNPs on the surface of TiO2 exhibits a high oxidation efficiency under visible light. This is coherent with the HR-TEM through which the existence of multiple zones of high crystalline of TiO2 particles having attached to Ag NPs is proven. With XPS spectra, oxidation state of metal (Ti4+) and nature of orbital orientation bonding with Ag were confirmed. With using DFT, how the crystal plane of anatase TiO2 [101] orients perfectly towards the plane [111] of Ag NPs in order to reduce the band gap energy relating to Density of State (DOS); obviously, it decreases the recombination effect that leads a highly enhanced Cipro degradation. The formation of intermediates in the degradation was analyzed by HPLC-MS, corroborating excellently with DFT results, and proposed a possible mechanism.
