Materials exhibiting ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties are of immense attention due to their promising technology applications. Recently, these materials have been probed in the domain of mechanical energy harvesting devices. Our group is interested in the design of ferroelectric salts of phosphonium and ammonium cations for halo, oxo and halogenometallate derived anions and employ them as piezoelectric energy harvesters. We have shown that the phosphonium salt [Ph2(iPrNH)2P]PF6 is ferroelectric and its various weight percentage composites with poly (dimethyl) siloxane (PDMS) act as efficient metal-free mechanical energy harvesting devices.&lt;span style=font-size:10.8333px"&gt;1&lt;/span&gt; Use of tetrahedral anions such as BF4, ClO4 and IO4 ions, in combination with the phosphonium cations of the type [Ph3(iPrNH)P], [Ph2(iPrNH)2P], [Ph(iPrNH)3P], [(iPrNH)4P] gave rise to a family of ferro- and piezoelectric salts. Flexible composites of the BF4 salts of these cations with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) exhibit energy harvesting and storage properties (Figure).2 In a related project, composites of A2MX4 type hybrid halogenometallate salts with PDMS polymer were prepared and shown to yield a record high output voltage of ~65 V that can be stored in the form of a capacitor.3
