Both heme and non-heme iron nitrosyl complexes are important for a variety of biochemical functions, including NO generation for blood pressure regulation. Analogous HNO complexes of such species are more rare. In this contribution, we describe the synthesis, characterization, and electrochemistry of a non-heme Fe-NO species [Ru(t-Bu<sub>4</sub>salchy)(NO)] containing the (t-Bu<sub>4</sub>salchy = [N,N-Bis(3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylidene)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane]).  The dark blue material obtained has been characterized by spectroscopic methods, and its redox behavior studied by cyclic voltammetry under drybox conditions. The oxidations and reductions of this complex were studied by fiber-optic IR spectroelectrochemistry, and by in-situ EPR spectroelectrochemistry. The consequences of reduction in the presence of weak acids will be discussed.
