Direct recycling of Li-ion batteries (LIBs) reclaims and rejuvenates electrode materials for the re-use in new battery manufacturing. Unfortunately, delamination and separation of pure electrode materials from LIBs for direct recycling remains a challenge. In the present work, we have shown that the froth flotation process separates various battery components from LIBs by controlling the surface hydrophobicity of battery materials. The effect of flotation collectors has been evaluated, and an improved separation performance has been achieved. In addition, it has been found that both cycle performance and rate capability of the recycled cathodes are comparable to those of pristine cathode. The present result demonstrates a promising and scalable process for upcycling high-purity electrode materials for direct recycling of LIBs.<br/>
