The inorganic chemistry curriculum is flexible at undergraduate institutions in the United States. Generally, there is a certain subset of topics taught all across the board, which include atomic structure, molecular bonding, solids, coordination chemistry etc.,. Based on the specialization of the instructor additional topics are implemented such as materials chemistry or organometallic chemistry or bioinorganic chemistry. Also, in some ACS accredited programs there is a two course sequence and in some others only one semester of inorganic, which dictate course content. Typically material science based topics are not encountered at the undergraduate level until recently, which is attributed to the formation of a nanoscience sub-division. The implementation of materials/nanoscience based topics in the inorganic curriculum at Towson University began in 2015. The nuances of nanoparticles and its size dependent properties are interweaved as part of lecture starting with the first chapter, atomic structure. Observations and results of this effort will be presented. In addition, the creation of an energy lesson with nanoscience as the central theme to resolve energy problems in a math secondary education course will also be discussed. This lesson was built on a three-dimensional model incorporating historical perspectives of nanoscience, geometry and physics based on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The details of the assessment questions and results of the assessment data will be presented.
