Electrocatalysis represents a powerful and versatile approach for both energy and chemical conversions. In this presentation, we will present results on exploiting well-defined molecular viologen electrocatalysts for organic synthesis with an in-depth discussion on electrocatalytic mechanism. In addition, heterogeneous nanostructuredCoS<sub>x</sub>(x = 1 or 2) electrocatalysts will be presented on improving electrochemical kinetics of iodide and sulfide electrolyte materials in flow batteries.
