Hydrogen can be used as a source of energy, which can be obtained cleanly from the decomposition of formic acid. Selective production of hydrogen from catalytic decomposition of formic acid in the presence of bimetallic catalyst nanoparticles has been investigated under various conditions. Selective production of hydrogen from catalytic decomposition of formic acid in the presence of iridium and iridium:palladium nanoparticles has been investigated under various conditions. It was found that loading of 1 wt% palladium in the presence of 2.5 wt% iridium over activated carbon leads to complete conversion of formic acid to hydrogen at 50 C after 8 h. The reaction time reduced to 3 h when the temperature was increased to 75 C, and further reduced to 2.3 h when the temperature was 100 C. The reported process has the potential for commercial application. In addition, we introduced rhodium to palladium and gallium and palladium with different ratios to get the optimal condition. Two different types of supports have been used (activated carbon and carbon nanofiber), and the catalyst has been prepared by the sol-immobilisation method.  The reaction condition (reaction time, reaction temperature, stirring speed, formic acid to metals ratio, the concentration of formic acid and reusability of the catalyst) has been optimised. The results show promising results selectively towards the desired pathway. The reported process has the potential for commercial application.<br/>
