Mixed-flow reactor experiments were performed on the Mg-rich chlorite (clinochlore, (Mg4.59Fe0.12Al0.84)[Si3.04Al1.18]O10(OH)8), at a pH range from 2 to 6 under 25 and 95 degrees, to study the combined effects of pH，temperature and variable flow rates on the chlorite dissolution. The normalized steady state dissolution rates under different pH-temperature conditions varied between 10-10 and 10-13 mol/m2s. Chlorite dissolution under low pH condition facilitated the preferential release of Fe. The congruency of chlorite dissolution in 95-degree experiments was better than that in 25-degree ones, and the chlorite was found to dissolve stoichiometrically under pH of 2. The changing flow rates only caused some fluctuations during the initial dissolution phase under near-neutral pH range, the lower pH value and higher temperature could help the chlorite dissolution reach a steady state more quickly under dynamically varying flow rates. Higher temperature could also help to decrease the effects of different experimental conditions on dissolution rates of chlorite in mixed-flow experiments. An activation energy of 53.2 kJ/mol and rate constant of log = -10.55 mol/m2/s for Mg-rich chlorite (clinochlore) dissolution under acid pH range were determined in this experiment. CrunchFlow was used to model the influence of larger flow rate changes on the chlorite dissolution. SEM photomicrographs demonstrate a remarkable change of the chlorite particles in their particle size and crystal morphology after dissolution experiments under pH 2, 95 degrees and after ultrasonic dispersion. The results of powder X-ray diffraction analysis indicate that the temperature has significant effect on positions and values of d (001) in chlorite dissolution experiments. Therefore, d(001) can be used in judging the dissolution temperature of chlorite.
