This year, the Pennsylvania State University student chapter, Nittany Chemical Society, has focused on increasing chapter growth through promotion of communication and collaborations with faculty members. A new subsection of the club has been created to provide tours of the chemistry department to potential new students, allowing current members to promote the club and department to incoming freshman. Nittany Chemical Society will be collaborating with Juniata College and Lock Haven University ACS student affiliate chapters in a demo competition, “So You Think You Can Demo,” which will be annually hosted at Penn State. Furthermore, the club has strengthened relationships with the Outreach Office to host events in the community focused on inspiring elementary and middle school children to gain an interest in STEM related fields. Through these events, we will strengthen our position as student leaders at Penn State University and be able to impact the local community in a positive manner to encourage continued growth within the chemistry field.
