The environmental significance of chirality in organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) is, in recent years, under intense investigation. All the OPs used in agriculture are applied in their racemic forms but the enantiomers usually differ in their biological activities, and degradation processes. Consequently, it is of extreme importance to isolate OPs as enantiomerically pure and define their chirality. In this poster, we discuss the combined use of three different techniques (optical rotation, circular dichroism and vibrational circular dichroism) to determine the absolute configuration of profenofos. Thereotical circular dichroism and vibrational circular dichroism calculations were also performed and their agreement with the experimental results has confirmed the enantiomeric identity of the compound.
