A synthetic strategy was developed to produce ss DNA block copolymers that relies on a grafting onto approach on the solid phase. Ds DNA block copolymers with extended nucleic acid segments could be synthesized by employing the polymerase chain reaction. The self-assembly behavior of DNA block copolymer micelles in solution could be precisely controlled by exploiting the self-recognition properties of the DNA block. By enzymatic reactions the size of DNA block copolymer nanoparticels can be easily controlled. As applications DNA block copolymers were applied for DNA diagnostics. The successful use of DNA block copolymer nanoparticels as drug-delivery vehicles shows the impressive potential of these new materials in biomedical applications.
