Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been showed to be an attractive material for applications such as separation, catalysis, drug delivery and gas storage. MOFs are porous materials that are constructed by metal ions or metal ion clusters, connecting together via organic ligands. Given this, MOFs are versatile materials because we can not only tailor the pore's size by extending the organic ligands and but also introduce functional groups to the pores by modifying the organic ligands pre-synthetically or post-synthetically. In recent years, several MOFs have been reported to have high gas uptake and high selectivity in gas separation. Herein, we will report the synthesis and characterization of a new series of extended MOFs that show unusual gas sorption behavior that can be potentially used as gas storage and separation materials.
