NMR spectroscopy is often limited by poor sensitivity.  For samples containing more than one compound of interest, the spectra obtained can quickly become convoluted, complicating interpretation.  To solve these problems our group uses the online separation technique of capillary isotachophoresis (cITP) to both separate and concentrate charged analytes of interest.  While our previous work coupled cITP with solenoidal microcoil NMR probes, the structural information provided by these spectra were limited by broad resonances and poor spectral resolution due to the magnetic field created by the current running through the capillary during separations.  The presented work demonstrates the coupling of cITP with a microslot NMR probe design which allows the separation capillary to be oriented parallel to the static magnetic field of the NMR eliminating the deleterious effects of the magnetic field produced in the capillary.  The benefits of this probe design are demonstrated for a series of heparin-related compounds.
