We will report our recent efforts on the utilization of elemental sulfur as an unconventional medium for the synthesis and stabilization of colloidal gold.   The preparation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and polymeric nanocomposites by the direct dissolution of organometallic Au(I) precursors and vinylic monomers into liquid sulfur as novel medium will be presented.  A detail mechanism and role of sulfur for the formation of Au nanoparticles will be discussed.
