(c) Real-time responses of metal oxide/CNF sensors upon sequential exposure to DMMP vapor from 0.1 to 1000 ppb.Ultrafine metal oxide-decorated carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were successfully fabricated by a single-nozzle co-electrospinning process using a phase-separated mixed polymer composite solution and heat treatment (Figure 1). ZnO and SnO2 nanonodules-decorated CNFs were characterized by various analytical methods (HR-TEM, XRD, XPS, and SEM) and showed a high surface area and excellent physical properties. The hybrid CNFs were utilized as the signal transducer in the chemical sensor. The sensing response of the dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) as a simulant for sarin was highly sensitive and reversible from the hybrid CNF sensor. Moreover, the sensitivity of the hybrid CNF sensor increased with the increasing amount of ZnO and SnO2 nanonodules decorated on the CNF surface.
