The key to the success of Carbon Capture and Sequestration program is the development of new materials which can separate CO2 from other gasses. Ionic liquids have shown promise for CO2 capture in solvent and in membrane applications. However, there is a need to develop fundamental understanding of these potentially useful materials. We have synthesized a range of ionic liquids with varing molar volume and studied the change in solubility and viscosity. We will be presenting interesting findings that in certain cases when bulky groups are introduce decrease viscosity and increase the CO2 solubility was observed.
