The tridentate ligand  (o-(Ph2P)C6H4)2Te has been synthesized and allowed to react with (Et2S)2PtCl2 to afford complex 2  . Reaction of 2  with PhICl2 results in the formation of a novel Te(III)-Pt(III) complex (3  ).  Remarkably, 3  reacts with KF in MeOH to afford the Te(V)-Pt(I) complex 4   as a  result of an unusual internal redox reaction.  To our knowledge, 4  is a rare example of a metallated hexavalent organotellurium complex.
