This work simulates several operating conditions of a hydrogen-fuelled diesel power generator to optimize its use for energy production. The simulation was carried out using a dedicated software to predict the performance of the energy system. The diesel engine was simulated with varying load from 0 to 37.5 kW, operating at 1800 rev/min with fuel blends of 30%, 50% and 70% of hydrogen as diesel oil substitute. The results show that operating the engine in dual fuel mode improves exergetic efficiency. A thermoeconomic assessment shows that the exergetic unit cost is reduced with increased load. Carbon dioxide formation is significantly reduced with increasing hydrogen content in the fuel, especially at high loads. Thus, the use of hydrogen as engine fuel can become an interesting strategy for global warming reduction.
