Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are being intensively investigated as potential adsorbent materials for CO2. In this work, we explore and study a series of bio-MOF-11 (a superior amine based MOF for CO2 capture) structural analogues in terms of their gas adsorption (N2, CO2) properties, CO2 binding energy, and water stability.  We demonstrate how modifications of the bio-MOF-11 structure can improve the CO2/N2 selectivity as well as water stability.  We also investigate the impact of extra-framework cations on the CO2 adsorption capability of anionic bio-MOFs.  We show that by varying the cation size and functionality, we can improve the CO2 capacity and heat of adsorption.
