The development and study of amphiphiles with novel structures is of considerable importance due to both academic questions and their potential applications. Polyphosphazenes are hybrid polymers consisting of an inorganic backbone of alternating phosphorus and nitrogen atoms with two side groups attached to each phosphorus. A series of novel amphiphiles containing a hydrophobic poly[bis(trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene] block and a hydrophilic poly(dimethylamino)ethylmethacrylate block were synthesized. The alkyne end-functionalized polyphosphazene was synthesized by a living cationic polymerization, and then an atom transfer radical polymerization initiator was �click� linked to the polyphosphazene end for subsequently growth of the organic block. The critical micelle concentrations determined from fluorescence spectra using pyrene as a probe were in the range of 3.47-9.55 mg/L. TEM and dynamic light scattering indicated that the spherical micelle aggregates were formed with an average diameter of 100-142 nm. The partition equilibrium constants of pyrene in the micelle solutions were between 0.12�105 and 1.52�105.
