A series of Fe SNS pincer complexes are described with the intent of comparing 'soft' S- and 'hard' N-donors for bifunctional small molecule activation, dehydrogenation, and HX addition catalysis. Imines 1a,b  are easily prepared from commercial sources and 1b  is reduced efficiently with ammonia-borane to afford amine 2  . The synthesis, characterization and reactivity of mono- and dinuclear Fe coordination complexes of anionic SNS pincer ligands derived from 1a  and 2  are presented along with their activity and selectivity for amine-borane dehydrogenation and for H2addition to cinnamaldehyde, benzylideneacetone and 5-hexene-2-one.
