Acrylates are widely used as architectonic coatings. For this research, we used a polyacrylic material composed of methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid and butyl acrylate, MMA+AA+AB, in order to improve its conventional properties. A POSS-based methyl methacrylate nanocomposite was incorporated by solvent mixing into the polyacrylic matrix. Due to the methacrylic backbone, the hypothesis was that the nanocomposite and the polyacrylate would be miscible. POSS-methacrylate contents ranged from 0 %g/g to ca. 5 %g/g. Thermal analysis results suggested miscibility between POSS- methacrylate and the polyacrylic matrix, as well as gradual increases in glass transition temperature. On the other hand, the blends displayed lineal viscoelastic regime and the time temperature superposition principle applied to all blends. Strikingly, it was found that dynamic viscoelasticity decreased as the POSS-methacrylate concentration increased. This suggest that POSS acts as a lubricating agent. Young modulus by uniaxial deformation, showed an increase according to the increase of POSS-methacrylate content. Furthermore, it was found that the water contact angle of all blends increased with respect to the neat polyacrylate coating. Therefore, POSS-methacrylate nanocomposite highly influenced the physical properties of the polyacrylic coating.
