Pt/MWCNT catalysts were prepared via a liquid reduction method. The selective hydrogenation of citral was investigated over 5.0 wt.% Pt/MWCNT catalysts at different reaction conditions. The hydrogenation selectivities to N+G is 33.7% over 5.0 wt.% Pt/MWCNT catalyst. Surprising, the selectivities to N+G increased from 33.7% to 90.7% when Fe3+ was introduced to the 5.0 wt.% Pt/MWCNT catalyst. The precursor of Fe3+, amount of Fe3+, solvents, and reaction conditions were investigated. Moreover, based on the XRD, BET, XPS, FT-IR, and TEM characterizations of catalysts, the reaction mechanism was discussed. It revealed that Fe3+can activate the C=O bond during reaction process and increase the selectivity to N+G.Table 1.  Effects of catalysts on catalytic activity
