Moisture content of paper and pressure with which indentations are made were qualitatively examined using an Electrostatic Detection Apparatus (ESDA).  This technique was developed with the premise that the optimal moisture content that produces the �best� latent image could be established for this type of paper and thus carried out for other frequently used papers.  A quantitative analysis of electrostatically enhanced images is presented.  The quality of the image is determined by using Adobe PhotoShop� software to assign a quantitative value equivalent to the darkness, or K value, of the image.  This method will allow for a controlled method of humidifying the paper to bring it to optimal moisture content for electrostatic enhancement without several cycles of trial and error and/or destruction of the paper can be used.  Images were enhanced and photos were taken at 5-minute intervals from zero to twenty-five minutes.
