Nickel-catalyzed stereospecific cross-coupling reactions of alkyl esters with dialkylzinc reagents are shown to be facilitated by the addition of a traceless directing group. Preparation and evaluation of a series of directing groups will be discussed. The overall transformation was found to  proceed with excellent stereochemical fidelity, transferring the stereochemical information from the starting material directly into tertiary carbon centers.
