Our objective in this presentation is two-fold. First, we discuss recent advances in the description of the electronic structure and optical properties of small-gap conjugated polymers that present alternating electron-rich and electron-accepting moieties and are used as the electron-donor component in organic solar cells [1-2]. Secondly, we investigate the morphology of polymer / fullerene or oligomer / fullerene blends [3]; we describe the impact of the local packing configurations at the interface between the electron-donor and the electron-acceptor components on the exciton-dissociation and charge-separation processes [4].References(1) C.
