Structural and photophysical properties for a class of heterobimetallic Cu(I)/Au(I) cyclic trinuclear complexes are discussed. The stable heterobimetallic Cu(I)/Au(I) trinuclear metallocycles are in the form of [Au2(R-Im)2Cu(R')2Pz] and [Au(R-Im)Cu2(R')2Pz2] (where R-Im = 1-Methylimidazolate or 1-Benzylimidazolate and (R')2Pz = 3,5-Bis(trifluoromethyl)pyrazolate) have been synthesized and characterized. These complexes are formed from the appropriate stoichiometric ratios of the corresponding homonuclear Au(I) trinuclear metallocycles and homonuclear Cu(I) trinuclear metallocycles. The Cu2Au and CuAu2 trimeric metallocycles have been isolated as white solids the crystal structures of [Au2(BzIm)2Cu(�-3,5-(CF3)2Pz)] and [Au2(�-1-MeIm)2Cu(�-3,5-(CF3)2Pz)]is discussed. The crystal packing of the planar cyclic trinuclear complexes indicates the formation of a dimer of heterobimetallic trimers and extended chain supramolecular structures linked by a Au-Cu metallophilic bonds. These complexes exhibit fascinating and sophisticated photophysical properties that are shown to be dependent on the excitation wavelength and on the temperature.
