Metallic organic frameworks (MOFs) are infinite network of inorganic-organic motifs, which have potential applications in hydrogen storage, catalysis and selective gas adsorption, and separation due to their rigid porosity, high surface area and redox properties. MOFs are generally synthesized by solvothermal and hydrothermal methods, which require harsh reaction conditions such as high temperature and pressure. Herein, we report on highly efficient and green methodology to synthesize these metal-cyanide frameworks utilizing direct reduction of Mt(AA)(LL)X (Mt=CuII, CoII, OR NiII, x=Cl or Br, AA=amino acid) complexes in the presence of 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) and ascorbic acid (AA). These frameworks were characterized by IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and single crystal X-Ray crystallography.
