New heterocyclic thiosemicarbazone derivatives of 2-acetyl pyrazine,2-acetyl-3-methylpyrazine, and 2-acetyl-3-ethylpyrazine have been synthesized,correlated, and characterized by 1HNMR. These substances were usedas tridentate ligands with Pd2+, and Cu2+ to form metalcomplexes which were screened for antimicrobial activity by determining theminimum inhibitory concentrations against four bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), two yeast (Candida albicans and Sacchromyces cervisiae), and one mold (Aspergillus niger). Significantdifferences in the anti-proliferative abilities of the ligands and the metalcomplexes were seen. Entries made in previous literature pertaining tothiosemicarbazones indicate significant applications in biological andbiomedical science.
