We are interested in magnetic nanostructures for device development and applications medicine (MRI contrast agents).  This talk will discuss how coordination chemistry can be used to incorporate a magnetic cluster on surfaces and within nanobeads.  The work seeks to elucidate the consequences of nanostructured formation on the magnetic properties of the cluster.  In addition, through targeted design of ligands, we have created a self organizing system, to prepare monolayers of magnetic clusters without using traditional gold-thiol chemistry.
