Thiophenes are by far the most prevalent heterocycle in organic electronic materials. The related dithiolodithiole motif is antiaromatic in the ground state and aromatic in the excited state which can lead to interesting optoelectronic properties.  We have discovered a set of conditions that give the dithiolodithiole motif in synthetically useful yields. A series of dithiolodithiole derivatives have been prepared and characterization of their photophysical and electronic properties will be presented.
