A bstract :  Hydrolysis of two kinds of lignin model compounds was originally conducted with six different solid acid catalysts (732 cation resin, HZSM-5, sulfated zirconia, Amberlyst-15 cation resin, C-SO3H and L-SO3H). Monobenzone was used as the a-O-4 bond type of lignin model compound, and hydroquinone was the main product with a yield and selectivity of among 5.6-47.7%, 57.1-92.0%, respectively. Guaiacylglycerol-b-guaiacyl ether (GG) was employed as the b-O-4 bond type of lignin model compound, while guaiacol was found the main product with a yield and selectivity of among 22.2-38.0% and 63.0-100%, respectively. Possible mechanism of catalytic hydrolysis of monobenzone and GG are presented.
