Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been found to possess a plethora of exceedingly excellent applicable properties. However the lack of suitable alignment methods along the desired direction has been the major road block to their practical applications. Recently anisotropic liquid crystalline media have emerged as a suitable fluid host to align carbon nanotubes. Moreover, the aligned CNTs can be reoriented under the influence of external stimuli by reorienting the host liquid crystalline media. In this talk, we will present our approach towards the alignment of carbon nanotubes in thermotropic discotic columnar and lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal phases.
