Polyester amines were synthesized from the interfacial polymerization of the salt of norfloxacin and triphenyl Group V dihalides.  Reaction was rapid occurring in less than 5 seconds.  The arsenic and antimony products are oligomeric but the bismuth product is a high polymer.  Yields are moderate for all three Group V products.  IR results show the formation of new bands assigned to the M-O and M-N linkages consistent with polymer formation.  Also, IR results are consistent with the formation at the metal-atom being symmetrical such as N-M-N and O-M-O.  NMR results are consistent with the formation of the polyester amines with the loss of the band associated in norfloxacin to the R-N-H moiety since the proton is replaced by a triphenylmetal moiety in the polymer.
