N-heterocycles with a bridgehead nitrogen atom are common structural motifs in medicinal chemistry, which show a wide-range of biological activities.  Despite their commonality, these compounds are rarely encountered in undergraduate organic chemistry courses.  A number of these compounds are prepared using reaction types, and topics, that are an integral part of undergraduate organic courses; nucleophilic substitutions, additions to carbonyls, and aromaticity.  It will be demonstrated of how these compounds can be introduced, in the lecture and laboratory portions of the undergraduate organic chemistry course, to reinforce concepts, provide new examples, and show direct applicability.
