The development of palladium-mediated catalysis in the context of Csp3 carbon centers has made great progress in recent literature.  However, due to the problematic off cycle pathway of �-hydride elimination that occurs post Csp3 oxidative addition, there are still major gaps that need to be filled. In this work, a tethered alkyne allows for the ring closure of a pendant alkyl iodide to form trisubstituted olefins. A wide variety of alkyl iodide substrates were successful in this reaction and further mechanistic studies have revealed insights into potentially both radical and two-electron pathways.
