Defects within the bulk and at interfaces in organic photovoltaic devices are closely tied to the device properties and performance. While there have been significant efforts over the years in new material development and morphology optimization, accurate and thorough characterization of defect landscape is still in its infancy. In this talk, we will present our recent work on accurate electrical characterization of defects in organics, probing deeper defects in the classic polythiophene system, and extraction of fundamental defects-related parameters. We will also discuss the characterization challenges, and generalities/specificities across different organic material systems.
