The objective of this work is to study the influence of NiW catalysts' acidity and metal dispersion on selective hydrodesulfurization (HDS) to various structured sulfur compounds in FCC diesel. Two NiW catalysts (CAT-1and CAT-2) were prepared in different methods to obtain different acidity and metal dispersions. The physicochemical properties of the two catalysts were compared with those of a conventionalNiW/Al2O3 catalyst. These catalysts were characterized by texture properties, Py-FTIR, H2-TPR and HRTEM. The selective HDS performances of all the catalysts were assessed with the full-range Dagang FCC diesel. The distributions of sulfur compounds in the feed and products diesel were analyzed via gas chromatography with a pulsed flame photometric detector (GC-PFPD). The results showed that CAT-1 which exposed more intensive Br�nsted acid sites on the surface and had less stacking number of WS2 slabs displayed greater selectivity in removing simple sulfur compounds. While CAT-2 that exhibited higher stacking number of WS2 slabs and weaker interaction between active metal and supports presented more remarkable selectivity in removing refractory sulfur compounds. The present results indicated that the HDS selectivities of catalysts to different sulfur compounds were closely related to the acid type distributions and active metal dispersions.
