Despite its ubiquitous role in everyday life, from food and agriculture, to materials, medicine, energy and the environment, the field of Chemistry has maintained a small presence in the public eye. Even incoming and current undergraduate chemistry majors are unaware of some of the important, but less popular fields and professions in chemistry. To highlight the scope of chemistry careers, we feature a variety of speakers for general body meetings, from chemistry faculty to industrial scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, lawyers, and other professionals. We host career-related workshops and help students find research internship opportunities. We also organize social gatherings, such as a brewery tour, to emphasize the versatile applications of chemistry. We plan an annual undergraduate research symposium to provide students with opportunities to practice their professional communication skills and to receive valuable feedback from other members of the research community. We have started our own outreach team � Spark � to educate local middle school students about the importance of chemistry in everyday life through on-stage interactive demonstrations. We also co-host events with the local ACS Chapter, as well as other colleges in San Diego, in order to engage a broader audience.  Based on formal and informal feedback, these club activities are helping to promote curiosity and connections to Chemistry among our campus community and beyond.
