Nitric oxide (NO) plays a key role in many physiological functions in human body. Recently, it has been shown that external applications of NO can promote the process of healing infected wounds. Electrospun polymers with high surface area and porosity are advantageous for NO storage and delivery. Due to their potential applications, research on polymeric materials functionalized with NO for wound care has received considerable attention. In this work, a Polymer of Intrinsic Microporosity (PIM-1) complexed with N, N'-Bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamino cobalt (II) (CoSALEN) was electrospun and loaded with NO to produce a bandage that is capable of NO storage and delivery. When PIM-1/CoSALEN is reacted with NO, an adduct forms that is both light and heat sensitive. The release of nitric oxide was measured using a Griess Reagent Assay, which can be monitored using UV-Vis Spectroscopy (?=533 nm)
